Blues Project, eine Band aus New York mit Al Kooper

Fünf New Yorker gründeten die erste weiße Bluesband ihrer Stadt. Es war der Grundstein für die erfolgreichere Blood Sweat And Tears.

Blues Project wurde in der Sylvesternacht 1964/1965 von Danny Kalb, als die "erste weiße New Yorker Blues Band" gegründet . Das Ziel von Ziel von Blues Project war es, Jazz, Rock und Blues auf ganz neue Art zu verbinden. Zu den Mitgliedern gehörte anfänglich Artie Traum. Ihre Gigs wurden in Greenwich Village zum Geheimtipp und das Cafe Au Go Go schließlich die Stammbühne von Blues Project. Hier entstand 1966 das erste Album "Live At The Cafe Au Go Go". Das Album wurde ohne Plattenfirma vertrieben und kam auf eine Auflage von 22.000 Stück.

Blues Project und Tommy Flanders

Dieser unerwartete Erfolg verhalf Blues Project zu ersten Plattenvertrag. Tommy Flanders dem Sänger und Frontmann wurden Solo-Projekte angeboten und er verließ das Blues Project. Mit "Projections" kam Blues Project bis auf Platz 56 in die Charts. Nach der dritten Platte, wieder ein Livealbum, verließen Al Kooper und Steve Katz ebenfalls Blues Project um die später viel erfolgreichere "Blood Sweat & Tears" zu gründen.
Ersetzt wurden die zwei Musiker durch die Jazzer Richard Green, John Gregory und Donald Kretmar.
"Planned Obsolescence" entstand und blieb als hoch gelobtes Jazz Album in den Regalen stehen.
Blues Project wurde in "Seatrain" umbenannt, da der Name "Blues Project" mit der neuen Musik nur noch wenig zu tun hatte.
1971 folgte ein neuer Versuch. Flanders, Kalb, Blumenfeld und Kretmar holten sich von "Country Joe" den Keyboarder David Cohen und den unerfahrenen Gitarristen Bill Lussenden. Die zwei folgenden Alben brachten nichts Neues und das "Blues Project" wurde beendet. Das Ende war allerdings ein letztes Treffen der Originalbesetzung im Central Park. In diesem legendären Konzert zeigten die Musiker noch einmal ihr Können.
Es machte der Blues Project gewaltigen Spaß noch einmal gemeinsam aufzutreten.
