..."Ah, ha" said Barry from Chicago. "What's happening?" - "Come down
here," I said, " and bring Charlie." - "He's on his way there to play
the Golden Bear," says Barry. - "Goodbye Barry." - "Hello Golden Bear,
is Charlie there?" - "Charlie here." - "Charlie you're there but can you
come here?" - "Who is this?" - "It's me and Lynn and Barry's on his
way." - Oh, okay..." - We call John and Boers who come down from Toronto
and J.J. comes from Calgary. We are hustled over to a building on Ivar
Avenue in Hollywood. Other people from other rooms come in and play for
awhile and we write all the tunes and jam together and the result is a
day of ? Anyway, here are 30 minutes of what went down at the IVAR
AVENUE REUNION...

Ein weiterer "magic moment" der Bluesrockgeschichte ist in meinen Augen
die 70er-Scheibe von "Ivar Avenue Reunion" featuring Charlie Musselwhite
(bluesharp/voc), Barry Goldberg (keys), Lynn Carey (voc), Neil
Merryweather (bass), John Richardson (guitar), J.J. Velker (keys), Robin
Boers (drums). Man traf sich im Studio, feierte eine Party und spielte
nebenbei diese Aufnahmen ein. Und was für welche: "Ride Mama Ride" der
Opener reisst dich in Stücke und braucht dafür nur gerade 2 Minuten 44".
Charlie brilliert auf "My Daddy Was A Jockey" und Lynn röhrt sich ich
auf der wunderschönen Goldberg/Carey-Ballade "Charlotte Brown" die Seele
aus dem Leib. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Nur diese eine tolle Session und
dann gingen alle wieder den eigenen Weg...
Lynn Carey und Neil Merryweather blieben noch eine Weile zusammen und
starteten das Projekt "Mama Lion".
Yes - die legendäre Scheibe von 1972 mit dem gestanzten Fenster und Lynn
in der Rolle als treusorgende "Tierbaby-Ersatz-Mama". Die Musik ging da
schon eher in Richtung Rock. Lynn singt da drauf eine feine Version von
Winwoods "Can't Find My Way Home".
